I think the first four chapters of Namesake really opens doors to people who never moved to a new country or has different religious beliefs from other people. I see evidence of this from all the chapters. For example Ashoke and Ashima naming their child. They were confused about what they should do, waiting for the grandma's letter, naming the baby themselves, or staying at the hospital another night.

The decision they made didn't really have affect on them but it had affect on their son. His name is Gogol, he is embarrassed if his name. I like the name Gogol but other people won't like it. I think the author really puts pressure on Gogol and on his name. For example on chapter four, lying about his real name and decided to use his public name as cover from his true identity.

What I like most about the story is how the author puts flashbacks of the characters past. When I read a story the most important thing I want to see from a book is how descriptive it is. I think have flashbacks really shows detail of whats going on and it gives a better understanding of the characters in the story and what is going on.
