In the story namesake I can see how indian culture affects a indian person's point of view. For example, when the baby was born they were waiting for the letter from the grandma. They finally forfeit when the hospital says if the baby doesn't get a name the hospital won't give them a discharge. I can see from this how eager they are to follow their traditions. After the baby was named Gogol the family was still waiting for the letter until they discovered that the grandma had died and they had a very small chance of getting the letter.
In chapter four I'm personally really upset of Gogol during his high school life. He is doing all sorts of bad things like smoking pot and drinking alcohol. Ashoke and Ashima should really start caring about how Gogol is spending his time on things.
I think all four of the chapters I read so far tells a lot about Gogol and different settings that the family goes to. The book is skipping to birthdays of Gogol and how Gogol has changed overtime. The four chapters also talk about how the family adopts to American culture along with indian culture. So it's like two culture combined together to form the family's culture.
