The Kill Order is a novel written by James Dashner which is the fourth book in the Maze Runner series. The story is about four main characters named Mark, Trina, Alec, and Lana living in a town somewhere in North Carolina with other survivors of the sun flares that killed a bunch of the world's population. They think they are safe when they are attacked one day by a future-like areal vehicle called a berg and by an ambush of darts. These darts contain a virus called the flare leaving people sick and making their lose their minds and humanity, eventually killing them. Being the only survivors of the attacks, Mark, Trina, Alec, and Lana leave to find out who did this to them and why. After being accompanied by a little girl named Deedee they find in a nearby village who they later find out is immune to the virus, they continue their journey. Later on, they are attacked by a group of people already affected by the flare. Because of this, Alec and Mark lose their friends and have to find them before anything bad would happen to them. During their struggle to find them, Alec and Mark find out the reason for the attacks from the berg. They find out that the reason for the attacks was to lessen the world population due to the limiting resources from the devastation of the sun flares. After this, they find their friends and rescue them, but not in time to save Lana before she was killed by the flare-infected people. After rescuing Deedee and Trina, they decide to take the immune Deedee to a place where she would be safe before the flare would completely take over Mark, Trina, and Alec.
In the end of the book, or the epilogue, it explains that Deedee is Teresa from the other Maze Runner books and that this book was to explain the origin of the 1st three Maze Runner books.
