The Outsiders is a story about a teen gang who are called "greasers" who like to live on the dangerous side of life filled with a lot of trouble and fights and with tension against the Socs, a ruthless gang of rich kids who think its fun to beat up "greasers." The greaser gang is filled with seven people who are the main characters of the story: Ponyboy, Sodapop, Darry, Dally, Two-Bit, Steve, and Johnny.
The main conflict in the story is when Ponyboy and Johnny get into a fight with a bunch of Socs which ends in the death of one of the Socs. Because of this, they hide, trying to prevent the possible consequences of their actions. They aren't alone though, and the rest of their "greaser" buddies stand alongside them together ready to face whatever happens.
